John Sales was born before 13 Aug 1854 in Horsmonden, Kent.³⁸ He was baptized on 13 Aug 1854 in St Margaret, Horsmonden, Kent.^24,40 He appeared in the census on 7 Apr 1861 in Fowl Hill, Yalding, Kent.²⁵ He appeared in the census on 2 Apr 1871 in Lodge Farm Cottages, Cobham.³⁵ On 2 Apr 1871 he was an agricultural labourer.¹²¹ In 1880 he was a Locomotive fireman.¹²² On 3 Apr 1881 he was a railway fireman in Bermondsey, London.¹²³ On 5 Apr 1891 he was a railway engine driver.¹²⁴ He was living on 25 Nov 1891 in 22 Aulay Street, Old Kent Road, Camberwell, London. (This is the address given on his son Henry Marshall's birth certificate.) He died cerebral ha[e]morrhage on 14 Aug 1900 in Camberwell, London.^125,126 (Certified by Victor Jaques MRCS.)
