He appeared in the census in 1891 in 31 St James Road, Bermondsey, London.196 In 1891 he was a scholar.196 Between 1898 and 1930 he was
a lighterman in the Pool of London.332

service in the Boer War. Between 1899 and 1902 he was a sharpshooter, Boer War
