William Sales was born before 15 Aug 1858 in Malling, Kent.¹²¹ He was baptized on 15 Aug 1858 in Brenchley, Kent.^133,134 He appeared in the census in 1861 in St Andrews, Yalding.¹³⁵ He appeared in the census in 1871 in Lodge Farm Cottages, Cobham.³⁵ Age 12. He appeared in the census in 1881 in 26 Church Street, Tovil, Maidstone, Kent.²⁸ (Described as born in Yalding, rather than Malling.) In 1881 he was a milk man in Maidstone, Kent.²⁸

William Sales and Emily Selves were married in 1883 in Maidstone, Kent.¹³⁶ (It has been assumed that this is the correct date, and that Emily Selves is the correct Emily. Only a marriage certificate can confirm this. However, all of their children were born in Maidstone.) Emily Selves was born about 1860 in Staplehurst, Kent.¹³⁷ William Sales and Emily Selves had the following children:
