He immigrated on 29 Sep 1857 to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.16,415,416 Sailed on the Washington Irving. William was the son of Joseph and Sarah Latter born at Rotherfield in Kent in 1826. William and his wife Jane (nee Weller) migrated to Australia with his brother John and wife Caroline on the Aloe arriving on 31-7-1857, incidentally, on week after the wrecking of the Dunbar .
The Aloe sailed from Liverpool on 14 April 1857 and during the 108-day voyage, William and Jane's second daughter Lucy was born on 25-6-1857 at latitude 40 40 degrees south and 58 degrees east. Surgeon John Carroll, Captain John C Ferguson.

John was able to read and write and had no relatives in the colony. John's wife Caroline was a 26 years old farm servant from East Grimstead. Her mother Elizabeth was still living in Rotherford? Father William could read and write, Church of England with children Sarah 1 year old born in Speldhurst, cost 1 pound for the family. Caroline's uncle Stephen Dumbrill lives at Surry Hills. Another 29 year old Sales – Henry migrated on the Washington Irving arriving two months later on 29.9.1857 with his wife Caroline. He was 29 years old from Rutherfield.
