She was also known as Sarah Jane Golding in 1857.185 (March quarter.) She appeared in the census on 7 Apr 1861 in Old Workhouse Cottages, Goudhurst, Kent.98 She was also known as Sarah J Golding on 7 Apr 1861.98 She appeared in the census on 2 Apr 1871 in Old Workhouse Cottages, Goudhurst, Kent.99 (Recorded as "Old Workhouse".) She was also known as Sarah Jane Golding on 2 Apr 1871.99 The fact that there are no more children mentioned for Herbert and Sarah in the 1891 census, and the huge gap between Florence and Linda's births, leads me to believe that Sarah had a lot of miscarriages, still births, and probably infant deaths before and after the 1891 census, until Linda was born. quarter.) They appeared in the census on 3 Apr 1881 in Three Chimneys, Goudhurst,
Kent.187 They appeared
in the census on 5 Apr 1891 in Three Chimneys, Goudhurst, Kent.109 They appeared in the census on 31 Mar 1901 in Three
Chimneys Cottages, Goudhurst, Kent.188
Herbert Standen (son of Thomas Standen and Ann) was
baptized on 25 Apr 1844 in St Dunstan's, Cranbrook, Kent.189 His baptism records the legend: Herbert son of Ann
(wife of Thomas) Standen, abode (of Goudhurst) Union House, Cranbrook. Hence
Herbert's mother was in the workhouse when she had him christened. Found a child
Susannah baptised 28 Feb 1841, mother Ann Standen, who was illegitimate, abode
Union House, Cranbrook. So, was she actually married to a Thomas Standen when
she had Herbert, or was she telling lies? Only further research by those interested
in Standens will show. He was born in 1844 in Cranbrook, Kent.190 (June quarter, Cranbrook Registration District.)
On 3 Apr 1881 he was an agricultural labourer in Goudhurst, Kent.187 On 31 Mar 1901 he was a carter on farm in Goudhurst,
