She appeared in the census on 7 Apr 1861 in Tonbridge Road, Hildenborough, Tonbridge, Kent.²⁵⁸ She was lame on 2 Apr 1871 in London Road, Hildenborough, Tonbridge, Kent.²⁵⁹ She appeared in the census on 2 Apr 1871 in London Road, Hildenborough, Tonbridge, Kent.²⁵⁹ She appeared in the census on 3 Apr 1881 in London Road, Hildenborough, Tonbridge, Kent.⁵⁵⁷ In the household of George and Ann Betts. She is recorded as daughter, but this is an error. She is unmarried. She has her daughter there with her, and is earning her keep for herself and her daughter.

Someone has put a note up on the Ancestry database page for Lucy that her surname should be Betts. We are not convinced of this connection. Her details (age and place of birth) agree with our Lucy. She might well be residing with the Betts family, as she had an illegitimate child, and there was not enough space at her parents' home. On 3 Apr 1881 she was a dressmaker in London Road, Hildenborough, Tonbridge, Kent.⁵⁵⁷
