Edward Sale and Mary Smith Penfold were married in 1851 in Westminster Registration District, Middlesex.498 The evidence for this being the correct marriage is that in the 1881 census, Mary is shown as Mary S P Sale. They appeared in the census on 7 Apr 1861 in Village, Standish, Lancashire.499 They appeared in the census on 2 Apr 1871 in Heskin Hall, Heskin, Lancashire.495 They appeared in the census on 3 Apr 1881 in Heskin Hall, Heskin, Lancashire.496,500 Mary Smith Penfold was born about 1826 in Goudhurst, Kent. She died in 1893 in Liverpool Registration District, Lancashire.501 (June quarter.) In the 1881 census, she is recorded as Mary S P Sale, indicating that she probably simply added Sale onto the other names after her marriage, making her name Mary Smith Penfold Sale. Edward Sale and Mary Smith Penfold had the following children:

The second source reference (to Ancestry.co.uk) was for the Registration District, as this was not shown on the FreeBMD index at the time of research. She appeared in the census on 7 Apr 1861 in Village, Standish, Lancashire.499 She appeared in the census on 2 Apr 1871 in Heskin Hall, Heskin, Lancashire.495 She appeared in the census on 3 Apr 1881 in Heskin Hall, Heskin, Lancashire.496

Edward Sale and Margaret Morris Marsden were married in 1894 in Wigan Registration District, Lancashire.505 (March quarter.) They appeared in the census on 31 Mar 1901 in Higham House, Eccleston, Lancashire.497 With them on the night of the census is Mary Ann Marsden, described as sister-in-law. It is therefore reasonable to assume that she was Margaret's sister. Margaret Morris Marsden was born about 1847 in Ormskirk, Lancashire.497
