On 30 Mar 1851 he was a footman in Phoenix Fire Office, 57 Charing Cross, St Martin in the Fields, Middlesex.⁵⁰⁶ On 2 Apr 1871 he was a farmer of 66 acres employing 3 labourers & 1 boy in Green Hill, Rotherfield, Sussex.²⁴⁵ On 3 Apr 1881 he was a retired hotel keeper in Lambeth, London.⁵⁰⁰ On 5 Apr 1891 he was a gasmeter tester LCC in Battersea, London.⁵⁰⁷ He died in 1900 in Camberwell Registration District, London.⁵⁰⁸ (June quarter.) This is the most likely match. He does not appear in the 1901 census, and he was living in London.

George Sale and Anne were married before 1871. The marriage could have been the following: George Sale and Ann Pickard, September quarter 1868, Kensington Registration District, Vol.1a p182. This is the only record we have found that is close enough. They appeared in the census on 2 Apr 1871 in Green Hill Farm, Rotherfield, Sussex.²⁴⁵ They appeared in the census on 3 Apr 1881 in 31 Saltown Road, Lambeth, London.⁵⁰⁰ They had their niece Emma Sale, age 18, born Thoines? Yorkshire, with them. It is likely that her surname was not Sale, but that of the maiden name of her mother. They appeared in the census on 5 Apr 1891 in 33 Lavender Hill, Battersea, London.⁵⁰⁷ Anne was born about 1834 in Flockton, Yorkshire.²⁴⁵
